Unplugged (also available in a workshop format)
This program features Kevin visiting your classroom, library, school, daycare, organization, party, or event and performing poems, singing songs, jumping, dancing, playing, and having a great time! However, there's no equipment needed. No electricity even necessary. It's not a formal presentation or show, it's a spontaneous, interactive, simple performance/presentation based on any of Kevin's books, music, and ideas. The direction of the performance can be based on the teachers, students, kids, and families' requests during the time together. There's a wonderful raw energy to this presentation in the fact that technology and "stuff" doesn't get in the way of good ol' imagination!
Kevin is very flexible in this presentation and by request can also:
- Talk about how he makes books and music
- Answer questions (best when students prepare some questions ahead of time)
- Facilitate hands-on writing activities and/or verbal poetry, etc
If there's a particular focus you'd like for this, just let Kevin know.
Consider adding this to a day when Kevin is already presenting! It's a great follow up to his presentations/shows.
"Kevin has a way of engaging the students and reaches all ages and grades. He makes poetry fun, exciting and the students left wanting to create their own poems too!"
- Kathy Wiegers, PTO Chair, Living Stones Academy, Grand Rapids, MI
"With a few books, one puppet (Ollie Winston), and close attention to the floor-seated youngsters, Kevin led the groups through imaginative exercises. Word rhythms, words to song, word rhyming, and brainstorming helped the kids experience an author’s process. With examples, self-tries, and lots of encouragement, everyone felt like a story inventor. It was a treat to see our children love playing with the heart of learning."
- Ann Van Eerden, Congress Elementary, Grand Rapids, MI
"Off the wall creativity---his songs were engaging and his rhyming activities were met with total enthusiasm!"
- Lynn Mudde, Kindergarten Teacher, Living Stones Academy, Grand Rapids, MI
